Neo “X” Panels Installation

PLEASE PROCEED WITH THE INSTALL

Note: The decorative panels “L” shaped that shipped with the kit originally have been improved upon to make the install even easier(do not attempt to use the originals that were sent) and the new style have been mailed out to everyone this week. WAIT until you receive THIS STYLE with the screw holes and yours will be holographic too.  This is a huge improvement and needed, so don’t use the old ones as it was unnecessarily time-consuming and difficult.  This will make the install super simple and thanks for being patient!!  To be clear, DO NOT use the original decorative panels that were sent!  Always improving the product even before you install them ;)

Take your time and BE PATIENT as this is a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT install(still very easy) unlike the other products. So DO NOT ATTEMPT to try to figure it out until this page is completed or you will for sure cause damage to your precious “X” Panels.

Estimated install time is 10-15 minutes

The video above is for “general” reference on how to install the Neo “X” Panels as the install is going to be similar to the Neo Atoms and Neo Fusion Atoms with the exception of the fact that you will not be using the Magna-Mounts to mount the the light cars to the cabinet wall since these machines have recessed slot for the Neo “X” Panels to mount cleanly and easily into!  So watch the video above so you know how to connect power, GI/Flasher triggers, and to set up the app.

After that you will need NEED TO FOLLOW THESE STEPS BELOW as you will have one additional power connection to make to the Lumi-Motion module (small rectangular holographic design) with specific app settings to use and that module has a specific place and position it needs to be mounted.  Also, very important is the light bars will need to put in a special location and wires routed prior to mounting them or you will damage the lights and cables.  Do not jump in and try to install them any other way than with the playfield raised. So BE SURE to follow the instructions BELOW and use the video as a “Guide” for everything else but these things mentioned.  This is an easy install if instructions are followed, be patient and it will go smoothly.

Important:  Orions Belt flasher lights (comes with the Neo “X” Panel Concert Edition version only) now come preprogrammed for your convenience(this is the Non-USB module with the 8 colored wires going to it) , so there is no need to program the flasher light colors any more.  Attempting to do so can result in damage to the module and lights.

Please note that we are not responsible for any damages done to your pinball machine. Install at your own risk! We suggest that if you are not familiar with working on your pinball machine that you take your time or have someone help you. Always consult your manual for detailed information or have a knowledgeable buddy/technician to help you.  If you are installing the Neo Atoms you will simply need to Click Here for the install instructions.  Find the flasher on your machine that matches the connection and you are good to go.  Also make sure you connect to a flasher and NOT a GI bulb.  If you mistakenly connect the flasher cable to a GI then the lights will get very warm and can damage the light bars or module.  Also on some machines the flashers are labeled as such but they do not flash, but instead are “On” more than they are “Off” during gameplay or attract mode(when game is on but idle). Their “flash” function is when it is turned “Off”, which means you absolutely do not want to connect to these as it will damage the Orions Belt flashers or lights bars(they will get very warm and warp) since they are not designed to be “On” like that.  This is why it’s important to follow our guide and if you do not see your game listed, always send an email if you are unsure.   So be sure to ALWAYS follow the Specific Flasher Connections recommendations.

Before you begin watch this install video first or you can click the video thumbnail above also at the top of this page.  Then proceed onto Step 1:

Now that you have received your Neo “X” Panels for your Stern pinball machine, you are about to embark on a journey of amazing proportions. This lighting kit represents the pinnacle of the Pin Stadium product line for these band them machines that desperately needed a solution to the lack luster decorative factory side lighting that comes from the factory.  Remember folks, this kit will take you from 96 LEDs from the factory to 1,400+(yes you read that correct).  Or maybe you have a machine that has a slot for this and no factory lights. Now you can do your machine justice and completely dwarf anyone that owns a machine with or without the factory lighting!!  If you have any questions, always feel free to please send an email here or go to the Contact Us section:

Please note that we are not responsible for any damages done to your pinball machine. Install at your own risk! We suggest that if you are not familiar with working on your pinball machine that you take your time or have someone competent help you. Always consult your manual for detailed information or have a knowledgeable buddy/technician assisting.

Step 1

If you have a machine that has the factory lights side wall cabinet lighting in it already then you will simply need to remove those lights prior to installing this.  It’s a matter of unscrewing the panels, pulling out the metal holder that has the LEDS and disconnecting the wires/cables.  You can then post it on any pinball marketplace for sale as you will no longer need it after you see these in action.

Next start the install:  Open your coin door, release the lock down bar latches on the left and right sides.  Gently pull the glass out and sit it in a safe place on a soft surface.  Next remove the pinballs or put a towel or rag in the trough hole to keep them from coming out as you raise the playfield into a full upright position.
**IMPORTANT**:  To help you identify the Left and Right light bar reference this pic here first this pic here first

You can see the orientation of the light bars and notice the LEDs are angled “down” towards the playfield.

Grab your light bars and set them in the bottom of the cabinet so that they are hanging over the sides of the cabinet as shown in the pic below.

Locate the black heat shrunk GI module with the USB input and grab your GI/Flasher cable.  Connect the Blue and White GI cable to a White GI bulb.  If you are not sure how to do this then you can simply watch this install video and scroll to that portion.  You can verify you have the correct GI bulb as it will have a yellow wire(make 100% sure of this) with a black stripe going to it.   Connect the alligator clips ends to each of the terminal of the GI bulb.  You may have some heat shrink in the way that you will need to push or peel back into order to get good access to the metal on the terminals.  Next connect the Red/Green UV=Glow cable from that same cable flasher#228 Overlord Mech per the pic below:

———–
To find the flasher options(they are numbered) open the coin door and use the buttons to navigate to Settings/Diag/Lamps/Flash.  You can then cycle through them (with the volume or flipper buttons) and get a visual locations of where they are located.  The machine will also tell you what flasher# you are on too.  This helps to makes things even easier using this method. You will need to pull out the white switch located near the hinge of the coin door to activate the high voltage for the flashers. Otherwise they will not flash then.

To help you trace and identify the 2 wires coming from the flasher:

Normally on the Stern machines they are an orange and red wire in most cases.  On the screen when you’re in settings it also tell you the factory wires next to the flasher # too.   It will also tell you the color of the factory wires on the screen.   That way you will know what you are looking for. You can also confirm that you have the correct flasher by unplugging the flasher connection and the flasher bulb on the machine will turn “Off” and then plug it back together and the bulb will flash “On”.  This way you will know 100% for sure you’re on the correct one and it is a flasher.  Also “never” trigger from a shaker motor on a Stern machine, and only if you are instructed on machines like Jersey Jack Pinball machines, etc.

The Red/Green cable is the UV+Glow, if you are installing Fusions then it will alway have a black cable with a paired colored wire(Red,Green, or Blue etc).  Then from that point you can plug in the flasher connection.

As far as the G.I. trigger:

Any white G.I. bulb for the Blue and White cable you can find will be fine. Generally on the Sterns it will have a yellow wire going to it to help you identify that.  Just make sure it’s White and not any other colors as it will cause undesirable effects if it’s not White

Next grab the other set of cables from the other module and connect them as follows:

Foo Fighters

#226 Center Spinner(Green/Black cable)

#232 Upper PF Area 51(Blue/Black cable) (Route the flasher trigger cables through the backboard opening to get it to this connector.  There is a small opening back there you can sneak it through.  Then once you insert the wire taps it is suggested to out some electrical tape in there to keep them secure and out of the way as the ball will traveler just under this section during gameplay. **If you have a Pro then you will just use the 2 pin “Y” adapter supplied with your kit.

#233 Upper PF Back(Red/Black cable) (Premium and LE only, Pro will not use this)

#228 Overlord Mech(UV+Glow Red/Green cable)

Rush

167 Upper Right (UV+Glow the Red/Green cable)

168 Lower Right (Green/Black cable)

160 Left Sling (Red/Black cable)

161 Right Sling (White/Black cable)

165 Upper Left (Blue/Black cable)

Led Zeppelin

White and Black cable not used

Pro
167 Backpanel (Green and Black cable) 2 Pin Molex

168 Left Eject flasher(Red/Black cable) (wire tap Brown/Red and yellow wire)

169 Left Spinner (Blue and Black cable) is amazing(optional and requires soldering) wire taps(email for details)

White and Black cable not used

Red and Green cable not used

Then line up the black ribbons cables with the path of the recess where the factory lights go and press them in the channel cleanly.  The must be in ALL THE WAY so you don’t damage them on this next step….  Now grab the decorative panel and put it on top of the black ribbon cable while making sure the black ribbon cables are in the recess of the cabinet routed slot.  Grab the 3 small black screws provided with the panels and screw them in the holes on with a small Phillips head screwdriver.  Keep pressure on the panel while you put the screws in so you don’t have the ribbon cables trying to pop out of the slot.  If you suspect any of them have snuck out, then redo it or you will likely screw into the cables!!  Do this for both sides then proceed to the next step.

Now lower the playfield very slowly and as you get close to the bottom BE SURE you have it going down straight so that the black ribbons cables do not get hit by the playfield and ALSO just as important is to watch under the playfield as you lower it(very slow remember).  There are metal pegs on each side on the underneath of the playfield as you lower and slide it into position that WILL HIT the LEDs on the Neo “X” Panels if it is not straight! Pay particular attention to the right side as that should be formed as tight as you can around the rail and cabinet wall.  Your light bars should look like this before you lower:

Once you are done then you can snap the light bars into their recesses.   You will start at the rear of the machine and work your way down towards the flippers.  You will have to take some slack out of the ribbons cables by reaching through the coin door and pull each of the groupings of the black ribbons cable down behind the decorative panel.  Make sure you pull gently and slowly as you snap the light bar in.  If you have too much slack it will bunch up and not allow you to cleaning push the light bars into the recesses.  If you have not enough slack and more it back out a little more as you need.  Do this part correctly so it looks like the 2nd picture above.  Remember to take your time and do it right, as those cables will hit the playfield if you don’t it correctly.  Once you do this step you will never ever have to remove or mess with the lights ever again.  It is suggested to use the factory cable routings to put the black ribbons cables into as you approach the bottoms of the cabinet.  Look at the 2nd pic on the left side to see what this is referring to.  Now do this for the opposing side and you are all set with this portion!!

Step 2

Next, plug in the power “splitter”(if you were supplied one) into the service port located behind the right speaker on the backbox.  Plug the power supplies into the splitter and running the cables into the bottom of your cabinet so you can access them later.  Remove the 3m backing and mount the Lumi-Motion wireless sensor box on the back of the speaker as shown.  Make sure the small port is pointing down in the opening of the speaker and the adhesive is on the edge of the outside radius of the speaker:

Step 3

Plug the power from one of the power cables into the black box(has a patterned holographic design on it).  It is best to have only the power going into this Lumi-Motion module for this step, otherwise you are going to get confused and see 3x “LEDNet***” Device showing up to connect to.  If you don’t do this you will get confused and frustrated wondering which module is which.  It’s always a good idea to connect to each module this way regardless, as it saves a lot of time.  Once you do this, then you will download the Pin Stadium app and connect to the “LEDNet******” Wifi for this device and add it to your app.  It is suggested to name it something unique like “pinball name”(Lumi) or something along those lines so you will be able to easily identify it in the future.  Once connected make you go to “Music” tab located on the bottom of the app.  Then select “Device Microphone” and hit the play button.  At the tap on “Light Screen Mode” and select the first colorful spectrum setting as shown in the pic below:

Also you can adjust the brightness and sensitivity to your liking after a few games.  The brightness is turned up to 100% and it is suggested that you adjust them DOWN to your preferred level as the Lumi-Motion lights are intentionally made to be seen but NOT USED for the main playfield illumination and the higher the Sensitivity, the more intense the effect on the lights. There is a separate set of lights on the lights bars for that and that will be the GI lights controlled from the USB GI module.   Understanding this is vital so that you know how to properly use, view, and observe the functionally of these lights as the Neo “X” Panels are a new beat in our line up with it’s own set of rules!  The Lumi-Motion are there to impress you and not necessarily be as bright as they can be, as 100% is intense and you normally don’t want to have them up that high, but hey you are in control and there are not rules at that point.  This section above is to cover the customers that may be thinking “I can see the lights on the side when I am playing and they are so bright” ;). Well it is only the Lumi-Motion lights and it is by design!!

Customization:  Adjust to your liking as always and you can feel free to try other effects and patterns if you like, but this is to be done at your own journey and exploration.  There is no documentation and instructions on these as it’s self explanatory when you make the changes you see the effects.  The screenshot of the suggested effect above shows the one that gives the best overall results in our opinion, but hey you may find something better you like and even can customize them specific ones too!   You’ve got option as always with Pin Stadium products.

Step 4

Congratulations, you can now close the machine up, reinstall the lock down bar, and put the balls and glass in and play!!!
